TidyTowns 2009
First outing for Killenard(Leinster Express 23rd Sept 2009)

ENTERING the Tidy Town's Competition for the very first time, killenard were told not to be disappointed by their comparitively low mark.

Scoring 221 out of a possible 400,the judge's report said the main reason for the low score was the lack of information provided.

The built environment around the village received many positive comments from the adjudicator.

The report said: " The charming church in an unusual mixture of rual Baroque and Gothic, with it's interesting and well maintained graveyard, is the traditional centrepiece of the village and is beautifully kept up."

LAOIS NATIONALIST
KILLENARD Category B 2009 mark: 221 2008 mark: The charming church in an unusual mixture of rural Baroque and Gothic, with its interesting and well-maintained graveyard, is the traditional centrepiece of the village and is beautifully kept up. Scoil Naoimh Eoin is of imaginative design, especially in the use of external timber and cheerful colours. The shopping centre is surrounded by pleasant shrubberies and bedding. It is very encouraging to see so much tree planting, especially of native hardwoods, and also how the ancient trees of the neighbourhood have been respected. Individual homes which are not part of housing projects were seen to be presented with pride, most of them with gardens of real personality. The roadside verge and wall at the railway bridge needed attention.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
